According to his book “In the Blink of an Eye”, Walter Murch took nearly two years toedit the movie, with an average of 1.47 cuts a day. The original editor Barry Malkin withdrew in the earlier stages of the production. However, it was he who recommended his friend Richard Marks to do the editing. Editing the helicopter napalm attack took one year to complete. Approximately 10 percent of the footage shot (130,000 feet) was from that sequence itself.

Wow, a 3 hour film. That sounds extensive haha. Yeah, I’d definitely change to a different version of FCP (I told Knives in an earlier message that FCPX cannot take a project longer than 10 minutes. I forgot to put my answer up on here).
But GOOD NEWS concerning FCPX.
A friend of mine knows an Apple consultant for FCP in San Francisco and he told my friend that there is an update coming up this month (I think? Haven’t read anything about in any articles). And according to the consultant (who has already tested it), this update is going to be “amazing” and “the best thing that’s ever happened” and he “can never go back to any other version of FCP.” Yes, those were his words.
He, of course, can’t give any details but it seems like Apple listened to our cries about FCPX. I’m dying to find out what’s so great about it. But I’ll keep this blog updated on it and I’ll try to get my hands on it as soon as it’s out.
Also, I wish I had that Apple consultant’s job.
